A six-month-old girl kidnapped in Indiana was found Thursday night at a Louisville Greyhound station, where the bus carrying her and a woman now facing a federal kidnapping charge arrived. The baby, identified as Adalyn, was recovered roughly five hours after authorities said she was taken.
Adalyn and the suspected kidnapper were traveling toward Louisville. According to WDRB's report, the Greyhound arrived just after 10 p.m. Thursday, when Louisville Metro Police officers, specialized task force personnel and SWAT officers moved in.
Police Say Suspect Used A False Identity To Gain Trust
The suspect was identified as a 22-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was accused in connection with the baby's kidnapping.
Adalyn was recovered from the bus, and the woman was taken into custody. The child was taken to Norton Children's Hospital as a precaution before being reunited with her family.
FBI Takes Custody As Federal Case Begins
The woman was federally charged with kidnapping. The initial public account did not include information about her attorney, a federal court appearance or whether additional charges could be filed. The FBI says it will initiate a kidnapping investigation involving a missing child “of tender years” even when there is no known interstate aspect.
The baby was recovered and the woman was taken into custody. The woman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court, and the federal charge remains an allegation at this stage.
