Goodboybob has landed in Venice, opening a coffee counter inside Deus Ex Machina’s motorcycle-and-surf outpost just in time to give the neighborhood’s gearheads another reason to linger. The Santa Monica roaster’s new outpost debuted with a July 18 grand opening, blending small-lot coffee with custom bikes, apparel and the sort of carefully curated atmosphere Venice does very well.
At the Lincoln Boulevard and Venice Boulevard shop, Goodboybob is serving pour-overs made with Guatemalan beans, espresso drinks, teas and a small lineup of muffins, bagels and pastries, according to the Daily News. The brand is known for sourcing rare coffees from small farms around the world, giving Deus shoppers an option beyond simply admiring the motorcycles and walking out with a new jacket.
A Coffee Launch With A Very Venice Side Quest
Goodboybob’s official events calendar paired the opening with a Deus Ex Machina carpark sale on July 18, then followed it with a Mutts & Mochas gathering on July 26. That rollout makes the new counter feel less like a tenant dropping into a retail space and more like another gathering point inside a venue already built around bikes, design and community.
The roaster was founded in 2016 as a speakeasy-style Santa Monica coffee shop by Erich Joiner, an Emmy-winning director and racecar driver, as LA Weekly reported. Its Venice arrival extends that original mix of coffee craft and creative-world networking into a shop whose customers, according to the Daily News, include artists and creators drawn to curation and craftsmanship.
The Menu Goes Well Beyond A Basic Gas-Station Coffee
The menu includes Goodboybob’s BBL, made with caramelized brown-butter syrup, espresso and milk, along with the Volcanic Cream Top, which adds vanilla-bean cream and volcanic black salt to flash-brewed iced coffee or iced matcha. The Daily News also notes the shop is offering classic espresso drinks and lighter breakfast pastries for customers who are not ready to commit to a full morning of motorcycle shopping.
That combination is a natural fit for Deus Ex Machina’s Venice “emporium,” which its official site describes as a mix of custom-built motorcycles, surfboards, clothing, artwork, accessories and motorcycle gear. With Goodboybob now handling the caffeine, the space has added a more polished coffee ritual to a shop that has long treated retail, culture and hanging out as part of the same package.
For Venice locals, the new counter adds another specialty-coffee stop to a neighborhood already crowded with serious caffeine options, but it comes with a built-in visual advantage: you can sip a Guatemala pour-over while browsing bikes and leather goods. In other words, the morning errand now has a little more horsepower.
