Uptown is about to get in line. Abby's Bagels, the Lower Greenville spot that turned into a morning habit for half the neighborhood, is opening a second shop on McKinney Avenue in late July. The new Uptown location is slated to serve the same hot bagels, stacked sandwiches and coffee that have been drawing crowds at the original. Regulars can expect familiar favorites, including the Nova lox and the shop's signature sandwiches, to make the jump to the new menu.
Owner Nick Backlund told The Dallas Morning News that the second North Texas shop is taking over a McKinney Avenue storefront and is expected to open in late July. Backlund said he wants to create a friendly place where neighbors start their day and added that the bagel boom at the first location made the Uptown expansion financially realistic.
Menu and coffee
According to the shop's own site, the Greenville location runs a breakfast and lunch lineup that ranges from plain and everything bagels to house creations like the Dallasite and the Texan, and it proudly serves Devoción coffee from Brooklyn. The menu notes that staples such as Nova lox, multiple cream cheese options and seasonal specialty bagels are regular fixtures, and the team also offers catering and online ordering.
How they make it
The operation ferments its bagels for roughly 24 hours and brines its pastrami for about 28 days, steps Backlund says give the sandwiches their edge, according to The Dallas Morning News. The paper also reported that Abby's lox is one of the shop's top sellers, a menu staple that is expected to be a fixture at the Uptown location as well.
Where it fits in
Abby's expansion is part of a broader bagel boom in Dallas, as independent shops have opened across several neighborhoods since 2024. The trend, and Abby's role in it, was highlighted by the Dallas Observer, which praised the Greenville store's morning lines and strong espresso.
The company has not yet posted hours for the Uptown shop. The Greenville location's website currently lists weekday and weekend hours for the original store, so early-morning service is a safe bet once the new spot opens.
