Gunfire turned a Steele Creek block into an active crime scene Saturday, as Charlotte-Mecklenburg police opened a homicide investigation in the 7500 block of Kings Ridge Drive. Officers found a person suffering from gunshot wounds, MEDIC responded, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives with CMPD’s Homicide Unit have since launched an active investigation.

According to a post on X from CMPD News, officers were first dispatched to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call in the 7500 block of Kings Ridge Drive. Once on scene, they found a person who had been shot. Operations Command, MEDIC, Crime Scene Search and Victim Services all assisted as the case shifted into a homicide investigation. CMPD listed report number 20260725-0219-00 and identified Detective James as the lead investigator, noting that the investigation remains active.
