A quiet Saturday afternoon at Booker High School turned tense when reports of gunshots in the campus parking lot brought a swift response from Sarasota police. Officers arrived shortly before 2:30 p.m., secured the area and began investigating. Authorities reported no injuries.

According to Tampa Bay 28, the Sarasota Police Department said officers established a secure perimeter around the parking lot while detectives launched an investigation. Officers canvassed the area looking for witnesses and any evidence that might explain the source of the reported gunfire.

The sounds were reported in the parking lot at Booker High School. The school’s online directory lists the campus at 3201 N. Orange Avenue in Sarasota, and notes that Booker High School serves students in grades 9 through 12 as part of Sarasota County Schools.
