Flora, a New American restaurant out of the Hamptons, is set to land in Charlotte’s South End on July 15, 2026. The spot is taking over the former Eagle Food & Beer Hall space at Atherton Mill and is planning a roomy dining room built around a large central bar, plus patio seating. Rooted Hospitality Group, the team behind Flora, is calling the move a homecoming and says the Charlotte kitchen will lean into seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

As reported by Axios, the restaurant will open at 2120 South Blvd and will cover about 5,000 square feet. Inside, guests can expect a 27-seat bar at the center of the room and booth seating around it. The seasonal New American menu is set to include blackberry-roasted duck breast, seared scallops and tuna tartare. The bar program will feature nine signature cocktails, including three martinis, plus four mocktails and a wine list with more than 50 bottles. According to Axios, Flora will start with lunch and dinner service and plans to roll out brunch later.

Chef and menu

According to flora, Executive Chef Benjamin McKinney will run the Charlotte kitchen after previously leading the Westhampton Beach location. The restaurant’s site highlights its focus on local sourcing and a Southern take on New American cooking, and it shares a sample menu that lines up with the dishes described in local coverage. The team is currently hiring for both front- and back-of-house roles as it staffs up for opening day.

A homecoming for the owners

Owners David and Rachel Hersh, who founded Rooted Hospitality Group, say Charlotte is where they first built a life together, and that connection helped guide their decision to expand to South End. What Now Charlotte reports that the concept will replace The Eagle Food & Beer Hall at Atherton Mill and that this will be the group’s first North Carolina restaurant. The arrival of Flora adds a nationally recognized brand to Atherton’s growing lineup of restaurants and retailers along the Rail Trail.

Opening promotions and hours

The team says it will tuck $25 gift cards around Charlotte for 20 days and drop clues on Instagram so people can track them down. Axios reports that initial hours are set for Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with brunch to be added later in the year. The gift card hunt and social media clues are designed to build buzz leading up to the mid-July debut.

Where it fits in South End

Property owner EDENS lists Flora as a 5,000-square-foot tenant at Atherton, confirming the footprint and placement tied to the opening. Atherton Mill has grown into a dining and retail hub along the Rail Trail, and Flora will join a packed stretch of lunch spots, coffee shops and evening hangouts. The addition helps round out a mix of neighborhood standbys and newer concepts that draw both weekday crowds and weekend visitors.

Reservations and updates are available through flora's Charlotte page, which also includes a phone number and newsletter signup for opening announcements. Expect the first service the week of July 15, as the team finishes hiring and prep for its South End debut.
