Monday afternoon turned deadly on Highway 164 when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Lawnsdale Road in the village of Waukesha. The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m., and the person was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews. The intersection sits on a busy state route north of downtown Waukesha.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department confirmed the fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash, according to FOX6 Milwaukee. The station reports the victim's identity has not been released and the crash remains under investigation.
Crash Location And Closures
That portion of WIS-164 was temporarily shut down while crews processed the scene and investigators worked to determine what happened. The stretch has already generated safety concerns in recent months; as TMJ4 reported, a nearby pedestrian tunnel was closed weeks earlier and residents had warned about limited safe crossings. Those local complaints have resurfaced in the wake of another tragic crossing fatality.
Investigation And Traffic Impact
The sheriff's office said Highway 164 was closed at Wilmont Drive during the investigation and traffic was rerouted around the scene, per FOX6 Milwaukee. Officials have not released further details and said the investigation is ongoing.
