KPRC 2 anchor Daniella Guzman has been suspended after records showed she received seven complimentary tickets tied to two major events at Houston’s NRG Stadium. The station says it is investigating a potential conflict of interest, turning what might look like a glamorous Houston perk into a very unglamorous newsroom headache.
In a statement published by KPRC 2, the station said it was aware of reports that Guzman received tickets to a concert and a FIFA World Cup match from the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation. KPRC said it takes potential conflicts of interest seriously and that Guzman was suspended pending a company investigation.
According to Chron, public records show three tickets to the June 17 Portugal–Democratic Republic of the Congo match and four tickets to Bruno Mars’ April concert at NRG Stadium. Guzman attended the World Cup match with her parents in a luxury suite and posted video from the outing on social media, making the hospitality unusually easy to document.

The Texas Voice, which obtained the public records from HCSCC, reported that Guzman received both the World Cup tickets and the Bruno Mars tickets. The outlet also reported that KPRC General Manager Sean McLaughlin said the station had opened an internal investigation and would not comment further because it was a personnel matter.
Guzman joined KPRC in 2022 and is a four-time Emmy Award winner, according to Chron. KPRC’s public statement, carried by Click2Houston, describes the matter as a potential conflict-of-interest issue and does not announce a finding that Guzman altered coverage.
Harris County’s Ticket Hospitality Is Part Of The Story
The ticket trail also sits inside a broader Harris County hospitality system. The Texas Voice reported that HCSCC provided complimentary World Cup or concert tickets to County Judge Lina Hidalgo, all four county commissioners and other public officials, while HCSCC’s own site describes the corporation as a Harris County component created to manage, operate and develop NRG Park.
Why Newsrooms Treat Free Tickets Differently
The concern is less about whether a ticket can be fun and more about who supplied it. The Society of Professional Journalists code advises journalists to avoid real or perceived conflicts and refuse gifts or special treatment, while the Radio Television Digital News Association warns that gifts can cause harm even when journalists are off duty.

Guzman remains suspended while KPRC conducts its review, and the station has promised to investigate the matter thoroughly and fairly, according to KPRC 2. As of Wednesday, no public announcement had said how long the suspension will last, whether the tickets will be repaid or what discipline, if any, will follow.
