Jacksonville families will have one less back-to-school expense to worry about Saturday, when a Sulzbacher Village bash offers hundreds of students free backpacks packed with supplies — plus a chance to connect with health services before the school-year sprint begins.
The event will distribute 500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies, with the giveaway open to families throughout the community rather than only Sulzbacher residents, according to 104.5 WOKV. VyStar Credit Union donated the supplies, and its volunteers were scheduled to stuff the backpacks ahead of the bash.
The Back-to-School Bash runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Sulzbacher Village, with food, family activities and community resources also available, according to Jacksonville Today. The timing is especially convenient for local families, with Duval County Public Schools students returning to class Monday, according to the district’s 2026-27 academic calendar.
Free Physicals Are Part Of Saturday’s Event
Sulzbacher will also offer 30 first-come, first-served walk-up appointments for free back-to-school physicals at the Duval Family Health Center, WOKV reported. That makes the event more than a supply handout: Families can tackle a basic school requirement while connecting with pediatric care in the same community setting.
The Sulzbacher giveaway is part of a crowded Jacksonville back-to-school season, with churches, nonprofits, health providers and businesses organizing supply distributions across Duval County. Jacksonville Today’s roundup lists multiple events scheduled around the area, including one Jacksonville drive-up giveaway planning to distribute 1,300 backpacks.
Sulzbacher provides housing, health care and supportive services for people experiencing homelessness and families facing housing instability, according to the organization.
