Afternoon Heat And Timing
A sunnier sky and a drier mid-level air mass will help inland temperatures climb into the mid to upper 90s. South winds around 7–12 mph, with gusts near 17 mph, will add just enough breeze to remind you how muggy it is.
The National Weather Service is calling for highs near 97°F and says the heat index could reach as high as 106°F this afternoon. Forecasters say that is just below formal Heat Advisory criteria, with the hottest stretch expected roughly from noon through midafternoon.
Beach And Rip Currents
Onshore breezes will push surf to around 2–3 feet and strengthen longshore currents, which bumps the rip-current risk to a moderate level this afternoon. If you are hitting the beach, lifeguarded areas are the safest bet, and if you get caught in a rip current, do not try to swim straight back against it.
Boaters and paddleboarders should be ready for brief gusts and sudden squalls near any isolated storms that pop up.
Weekend Outlook
A stalled front is expected to sag into the region this weekend, bringing higher chances for afternoon and evening thunderstorms on Saturday and especially Sunday. Forecasters say scattered to numerous storms are possible by Sunday, with locally heavy downpours in the mix.
Highs should stay in the mid to upper 90s through early next week, and heat-index values may climb back toward advisory-level territory late this weekend.
