A quiet afternoon in Keene turned into a nightmare scenario yesterday when a 15-year-old girl was grabbed on the street by a man who allegedly tried to force her into an SUV. She fought him off, got away without physical injury, and nearby witnesses helped get her home, according to police. Within hours, officers say they had a suspect in custody.
What Happened
According to CBS News Texas, the teen was walking in the 300 block of Greenbriar at about 1:10 p.m. when a Hispanic man approached and briefly spoke with her. The interaction turned frightening when he allegedly grabbed her and tried to shove her into his SUV.
Police say the girl managed to break free. Bystanders nearby stepped in and confronted the man, who then fled the scene in a black SUV that officers later described as possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, CBS News Texas reported.
Arrest and Charges
Keene police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Carlos Cuevas-Ruiz of Cleburne. He was arrested in the 9400 block of Silver Creek Road in Fort Worth and taken to the Johnson County Jail on a charge of criminal attempted kidnapping, CBS News Texas reports.
"Fortunately, she was not physically injured," Keene police wrote in a news release, according to the outlet. Authorities did not immediately release any additional details about the investigation or a court date.
