
A private event at Pacific Raceways east of Kent ended in tragedy Sunday when a two-vehicle crash left one man dead and a child in the hospital, authorities said. King County Sheriff's deputies pronounced the man dead at the scene, and the child was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment as the sheriff's office opened an investigation.

According to KIRO 7, the King County Sheriff's Office said the collision involved two vehicles and happened during a private event at the track. Deputies told reporters the man was pronounced dead at the scene and confirmed that a child was taken to Harborview. Investigators did not immediately release the names of those involved as they continued work at the site.

Pacific Raceways is a long-running road course and drag facility located east of Kent. The venue hosts club days, vintage meets and other private events throughout the summer. The King County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation and deputies worked into the evening to collect evidence and interview witnesses, according to KIRO 7. Officials have not said what may have caused the crash or whether any enforcement action could result.

Harborview Medical Center is the region's designated Level I adult and pediatric trauma center and treats major injuries from across the Pacific Northwest, according to UW Medicine. Authorities had not released any updates on the child's condition in the most recent reports.
