A ride yesterday morning ended in tragedy for a 38-year-old Mount Vernon man after his motorcycle went off Knox Lake Road near State Route 95 in Berlin Township and struck a stationary object, officials said.

The rider, identified as Steven D. Miller Jr., was operating a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650 and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was wearing a helmet and that drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.

According to WSYX/ABC6, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Miller was traveling northbound when he drove off the right side of Knox Lake Road, became separated from his motorcycle and struck a stationary object.

The patrol said the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Fredericktown Fire/EMS and the Knox County coroner all responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
