A 32-year-old Cudahy woman died at a hospital Thursday night after she was shot near South Packard Avenue and Lake Drive in St. Francis, according to police. St. Francis officers said a person of interest is in custody and that the investigation remains active.
Shots Ring Out In St. Francis Parking Lot
Officers were called to a parking lot on South Packard Avenue near Lake Drive around 6:30 p.m. for reports of gunfire and a woman lying on the ground, FOX6 News Milwaukee reported. Responding officers found the Cudahy woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately began life-saving measures at the scene.
Rush To Hospital And Witness Accounts
The St. Francis Fire Department rushed the victim to a hospital, where she later died of her injuries. The Milwaukee County medical examiner told WISN 12 that hospital staff notified the office of a death tied to the shooting. Neighbors told reporters they heard several shots and then saw a woman on the ground in the parking lot, according to the outlet.
33-Year-Old Man Held As Person Of Interest
St. Francis police said that around 8:20 p.m. officers took a 33-year-old Milwaukee man into custody as a person of interest and that the case is still under active investigation. The department was assisted by the Cudahy and Milwaukee police departments, Wauwatosa police, Brookfield police, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, FOX6 News Milwaukee reported.
Investigators Seek Answers And Witnesses
Authorities have not announced any charges and say they are still working to determine what led up to the shooting. The St. Francis Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact investigators, and reporters note that the Milwaukee County medical examiner has been notified, according to WISN 12.
