A late-night fight aboard a crowded Chicago Transit Authority bus near the north lakefront turned bloody Saturday when a man was slashed on the ear and chest during a clash with a group of women, rattling riders along a busy stretch of Foster Avenue.
According to CBS Chicago, the confrontation broke out around 11:18 p.m. on July 4, when a 34-year-old man got into a fight with three women on the bus. Police told the outlet that one of the women pulled a sharp object and attacked the man, who was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He was reported to be in good condition.
Where It Happened
The scuffle unfolded on a CTA bus moving along Foster Avenue near Marine Drive, on a block that sits between the Edgewater and Uptown neighborhoods and close to Foster Beach. The area draws heavy weekend foot traffic in the summer, and the bus lines there are a regular lifeline for both nearby residents and lakefront visitors.
Police Investigating
Belmont Area detectives were assigned to the case after the three women ran west on Foster Avenue following the attack, according to CBS Chicago. Police said that as of Sunday morning, no one was in custody while investigators continued canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video.
Transit Safety Context
The stabbing comes amid a string of violent incidents on CTA property this year that have raised alarms for riders. In early June, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that a passenger was stabbed during a fight aboard a Blue Line train in the Loop, leaving the rider injured and drawing an Area 3 detectives investigation.
