Lancaster-area residents who rely on landline phones can use 911 again after an outage disrupted emergency calling this morning. The Lancaster Police Department said service has been restored and that calls are now working normally.
Cellphone Users Were Told To Call 911
The department said in a Thursday Facebook update that the interruption affected landline phones only. While it was ongoing, police advised anyone needing emergency services to call 911 from a cellular device.
Lancaster Police Listed A Backup Number
Lancaster Police also provided 740-687-6680 as a non-emergency contact during the disruption. The department’s official website identifies that number for general, non-emergency police services.
The police update did not identify what caused the outage, when it began, or whether any other emergency communications systems were affected. The restoration notice said landline 911 calls are now operating normally, while cellular users were given as the emergency-call alternative during the interruption.
