Officers were called just after 10 p.m. and found a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to investigators.
Detectives Call Shooting ‘Accidental,’ Ask Neighbors To Check Cameras
Homicide detectives are working to piece together what happened before the shot was fired and told reporters the incident “appears to be accidental,” according to News4JAX. As part of that effort, they are asking anyone with surveillance footage from homes or businesses in the area to come forward.
Per the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office, anyone with information can call the non-emergency line at 904-630-0500 or email [email protected]. First Coast Crime Stoppers is also accepting anonymous tips at 1-866-845-TIPS.
Case Status Unresolved As Investigation Continues
The case classification is still pending with the medical examiner’s office, and detectives have not announced any arrests or charges, News4JAX reported. Officers are canvassing the neighborhood and urging residents to review doorbell and security camera footage for anything that might help.
JSO is also encouraging neighbors to register their home and doorbell cameras through the department’s ConnectDuval program to help speed up future investigations. Anyone with potentially relevant video or information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office using the Crime Tips line or email listed above.
