The Charlotte Fire Department posted its initial alert on X at 1:28 a.m. UTC on July 17, noting that crews arrived to find “fire showing on arrival” and confirming that a three-bay garage was involved.

The fire broke out hours ahead of a planned closure at Oakdale Road and Sunset Road, where the N.C. Department of Transportation is set to begin a roundabout construction project Friday night. Drivers in the area were already being told to brace for detours.
The agency’s notice spells out alternate routes and says the intersection closure will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and last through 6 a.m. Monday, with more weekend shutdowns possible as construction continues. According to the N.C. Department of Transportation, those additional closures would follow on future weekends as work progresses.
