A late Sunday night burst of gunfire left one man dead in the Fairwood neighborhood near Renton, and detectives are now working to track down a suspect who slipped away before deputies could arrive.
The King County Sheriff’s Office says deputies rushed to the area of Southeast Petrovitsky Road and Southeast 176th Street after multiple 911 callers reported shots around 10:57 p.m. When they got there, they found an adult man dead at the scene. The intersection quickly turned into an active crime scene that stretched into Monday morning while investigators worked in the dark to piece together what happened.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that its Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation and that Southeast 176th Street was shut down as detectives processed the scene. Investigators were expected to remain there for most of Monday morning. Officials have not yet released the victim’s name.

Detectives say they will be combing the area for evidence and contacting neighbors as they work to reconstruct the moments leading up to the shooting. Investigators are also asking residents to review any doorbell, home-surveillance or dash-camera footage from late Sunday night that might have captured the suspect or a vehicle leaving the scene.

The deadly shooting unfolded at Southeast Petrovitsky Road and Southeast 176th Street, a corridor that has already been on King County’s radar for safety upgrades. King County notes on its traffic safety materials that the area has seen measures such as pylons, radar speed signs and a traffic safety study intended to slow drivers along Petrovitsky and nearby 140th Avenue SE.
The neighborhood has also seen other high-profile violence in recent years. In 2024, a delivery driver was found shot to death outside the Fairwood Pond Apartments, a case reported by KIRO 7.
