A quiet stretch of Snapfinger Woods Drive turned into a crime scene late Saturday night in Decatur, officials said, after a man was shot multiple times and rushed to the hospital.
Officers arrived just before 11 p.m. in the 4400 block of Snapfinger Woods Drive and found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was reported to be alert and in stable condition, according to Atlanta News First.
DeKalb County police told the outlet that officers discovered the victim at the scene after responding to a shooting call shortly before 11 p.m. The department is continuing to investigate the incident. So far, investigators have not released any suspect information or announced any arrests.
DeKalb police ask for tips
According to DeKalb County, anyone with information about crimes can submit tips anonymously through the police department’s free app or by texting the keyword “DKPD” to 847411, followed by the tip. The county’s tip411 system strips out identifying information before messages reach officers, and officials say it is a primary channel for community reporting. Investigators have asked that anyone with relevant video or photos share them through those same channels.
Local context
The shooting comes as the Decatur area continues to wrestle with public safety and access to community spaces. Earlier this year, the area tightened security at public sites, with the Decatur Library installing a staffed metal detector and posting a DeKalb officer on site after an earlier shooting. That shift has fueled a broader debate over how to keep people safe without turning public spaces into something that feels like a checkpoint.
DeKalb County police said they are continuing their investigation into Saturday’s shooting and have not released suspect details or a possible motive, according to Atlanta News First. Anyone with information is urged to contact the department through the app or by texting DKPD to 847411. This story will be updated as officials release new details.
