A disagreement over roadside warning lights allegedly escalated into a tractor confrontation Monday night near Leesburg, where a 52-year-old man is accused of driving heavy equipment toward a work crew. Deputies say the tractor stopped roughly 15 feet from the workers after its front forks dug into the ground.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, as detailed by ClickOrlando, Johnny Paulk first approached the crew near County Road 452 and Felkins Road and argued about the flashing safety lights. Workers recorded cellphone video that investigators reviewed, including footage that allegedly captured threats and a second video showing Paulk driving the tractor toward them.
Deputies said the tractor did not reach the workers because its forks caught in the ground. Investigators later found the tractor parked behind a mobile home on Paulk's property, while body-camera footage showed deputies taking him into custody without further incident.
State business records provide another connection to the scene. The Florida Division of Corporations lists Johnny Aaron's Tree Services LLC as an active company with Paulk as its manager and a principal address on County Road 452 in Leesburg.
Paulk Faces Felony Assault Charge
Paulk was arrested on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and later released after posting a $5,000 bond, according to ClickOrlando. He is expected to appear in court next month.
Under Florida Statute 784.021, aggravated assault includes an assault committed with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and is classified as a third-degree felony. The charge is an allegation, and any final determination will be made in court.
