Overnight gunfire left a 57-year-old dead near Locust and Holton in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood early Monday, and the suspected shooter is still on the run, according to police.
Milwaukee police told CBS 58 the shooting happened at about 2:44 a.m. and that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Milwaukee Police Department at (414) 935-7360, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-8477, or submit tips through the P3 Tips online service.
Corner Has Drawn Controversy And Community Investment
The intersection of Locust and Holton, where Riverwest meets Harambee, has been in the local spotlight for very different reasons in recent years. A contentious mural at Holton and Locust sparked vandalism and legal fallout, as previously reported by Hoodline. At the same time, community development is moving ahead nearby. OnMilwaukee reported that the Kinship Community Food Center broke ground on a new facility at Holton and Locust earlier this month.
Investigators say the case remains active and they are asking anyone with video or other information from the area to contact detectives. That request and the tip lines were relayed by CBS 58. More details are expected as the Milwaukee Police Department continues its investigation.
