A man was shot and killed early Friday in Long Beach, with the shooter still at large as homicide detectives work to determine what led to the gunfire. The killing happened near Edison Elementary School, adding a grim overnight crime scene to a residential stretch of Central Long Beach.
The shooting was reported at about 1 a.m. Friday in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue, east of the school, according to a report by MyNewsLA. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and provided medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead.
Victim’s Identity Still Pending
Authorities have not released the victim’s name while officials work to positively identify him and notify his next of kin. Police said no suspects were at the scene when officers arrived, and the circumstances and motive remain under investigation.
The homicide follows a separate fatal shooting investigated earlier this month in the 1000 block of Myrtle Avenue, where one man died and another was wounded, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Police have not indicated that the two cases are connected.
