Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies responded around 6:39 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a man looking into vehicles in the parking lot. In an HCSO post published Thursday, the agency identified the man as Gonzalo Cabrera and said he refused to identify himself while deputies tried to investigate.
Deputies Say Cabrera Reached For A Crowbar
According to the sheriff's office, Cabrera resisted attempts to detain him and struck a deputy while trying to flee. Deputies then found him armed with suspected burglary tools, including a crowbar concealed in his waistband.
HCSO said Cabrera was ultimately arrested and charged with multiple felonies. The agency's account did not provide a full list of the charges in the information available for this report.
Arrest Follows Parking-Lot Suspicious-Person Call
The incident began as a call about activity around vehicles, then escalated when deputies attempted to establish Cabrera's identity and take him into custody. No injuries to members of the public were reported in the sheriff's office account.
The allegations remain allegations unless proven in court, and an arrest is not a conviction.
