A man is dead after an early Wednesday morning crash in Northeast Washington, where police found him unconscious and not breathing and first responders tried to save his life.
Officers responded around 12:06 a.m. to the 1300 block of Okie Street NE, according to WJLA. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his identity or detailed what led to the crash.
Fatality Adds To D.C.’s Rising Road Death Toll
The death comes as traffic fatalities have climbed sharply in the District. The Metropolitan Police Department reported 26 traffic deaths in D.C. as of July 29, compared with 11 by the same point last year, a 136% increase.
The preliminary total also surpasses the 25 traffic fatalities recorded across all of 2025, according to MPD’s year-by-year data. Anyone with information about the Okie Street crash is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text 50411, WJLA reported.
