
A Saturday night crash in Marion Township turned deadly when a pickup slammed into a parked SUV and hit a 16-year-old Marion teen who was standing behind it, authorities said. The collision happened on Likens-Chapel Road near Fairground Road at about 10:42 p.m. The teen was taken to Marion General Hospital and later pronounced dead. Several others were treated for what officials described as minor injuries.
According to troopers, a 2003 Ford Ranger rear-ended a 2009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class that was parked facing northbound. The Ranger was driven by 66-year-old Timothy Best, and the Mercedes was owned by 46-year-old Sandra Sayre. Investigators said Sayre’s son was standing behind the Mercedes when the Ranger hit it. The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Marion post is handling the case, according to Marion County Now.
The teen was transported from the scene by Marion City Fire/EMS to Marion General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, Cleveland 19 reported. Sayre and two 14-year-old passengers in the Mercedes, along with Best, were also taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, troopers said.
Who Was Hurt And Who Responded
Officials identified the drivers as Sandra Sayre, 46, of Marion, and Timothy Best, 66, in the Ford Ranger. Two 14-year-old passengers in Sayre's Mercedes were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including the Marion City Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Township EMS, Marion City Fire/EMS and Kirby’s Towing, according to Shelby News Reporter.
Investigation
The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Marion post continues to investigate the crash and has not released additional details about what led to the collision, according to Marion County Now. Local outlets are expected to provide updates as troopers share more information.
