Memphis woke up soupy on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with temperatures already near 79°F and dew points in the low 70s. That kind of humidity turns the city into a steam bath by afternoon, and rounds of storms later in the day are poised to dump more rain on ground that is already plenty saturated. Highs should land near 94°F, with sticky conditions hanging on through the weekend.
Afternoon Storms And Flood Risk
The National Weather Service is calling for a high near 94°F on Saturday, July 11, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 5 p.m., then storms becoming likely into the evening. Heat index values could climb to around 107°F in parts of the Mississippi Delta, and forecasters have outlined a Level 2 of 5 slight risk for severe thunderstorms, with damaging winds and flash flooding as the main concerns.
New rainfall during the day is expected to run from about a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with pockets of a quarter to a half inch possible Saturday night. On already wet soils, that is enough to trigger localized flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
What This Means Locally
Neighborhoods that were doused earlier in the week are the ones to watch for quick ponding and flash flooding. Low-lying spots, underpasses, and poorly drained streets are likely trouble zones if the heavier cells park overhead.
City services are on standby, and downtown cooling centers are open for anyone who needs a break from the heat. For locations and hours, see our full cooling-center list.
Plan Ahead
If you have outdoor plans, try to get them done in the morning, bring plenty of water, and do not drive through flooded streets. Keep an eye on local alerts and the National Weather Service for updates, and give yourself extra time for the afternoon commute if storms fire up.
