A World Cup night out in Miami has turned into an international headache after a video shared by Ecuadorian actor Danilo Carrera appeared to show a man identified online as political fugitive Xavier Jordán casually walking into Hard Rock Stadium during the England vs. Norway match.
The brief clip, shot at the entrance gates, has revived uncomfortable questions about who is slipping through big-event security and whether U.S. authorities had any idea that a man wanted in connection with a high-profile political assassination case might have been in the building.
What the clip shows
In the short video, posted by Carrera, the actor is seen walking through turnstiles at Hard Rock Stadium while a bearded man in an Ecuador jersey trails a few steps behind. After the post went up, social media users began flagging the second man as Xavier Jordán, a political operative wanted back home in Ecuador, according to reporting by the Miami New Times.
Carerra’s caption simply celebrated the match, steering clear of any mention of his mystery companion. His team did not immediately respond to media inquiries about the man in the jersey, the outlet reported.
What prosecutors allege
According to coverage drawing on Reuters reporting, Ecuadorian prosecutors first brought charges against Jordán in January 2024 and asked Interpol to locate him. They followed up in 2025 with additional accusations and a request for pre-trial detention.
In court filings, prosecutors allege that Jordán helped finance and coordinate the operation that killed presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio in 2023. Authorities have also linked other powerful Ecuadorians to the plot, including former Interior Minister José Serrano, who was arrested in the Miami area last year, Insight Crime reported.
Interpol listing and past travel
Ecuador formally asked Interpol for help tracking Jordán, and the international police organization categorized him as “dangerous and prone to evasion,” according to the Ecuador Times. The same outlet reported that at least one of his past flights to the United States was traced to Miami.
CBP presence at World Cup events and unanswered questions
Federal agents, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel, were part of the security apparatus at World Cup games in Miami. What is not clear is whether anyone on duty stopped, detained, or even questioned the man in Carrera’s video. CBP did not respond to requests for comment about the matter, the Miami New Times reported.
Legal implications
If authorities ultimately confirm that the man in the stadium clip is in fact Jordán, it could trigger a complicated chain of immigration, extradition, and criminal proceedings between U.S. officials and Ecuadorian prosecutors. Jordán has publicly denied the accusations against him and has taken his fight to U.S. courts, filing legal claims in Miami, according to Courthouse News.
The August 2023 killing of Fernando Villavicencio, who was shot dead as he left a campaign event, remains the centerpiece of the sprawling case prosecutors are building, Human Rights Watch notes in its coverage of political violence in Ecuador.
For now, Jordán is still officially a fugitive, and the social media posts that claim to spot him in Miami are being scrutinized rather than treated as proof. Reuters and local reporting indicate that Ecuadorian prosecutors are continuing to file charges and chase leads while officials in both countries weigh what to do next. Both media outlets and authorities have signaled they will update the public as new information surfaces.
