Police say a 60-year-old man who tried to break up a scuffle in Midtown was brutally beaten by a group of five in the pre-dawn hours Friday, leaving him with serious facial injuries. The attack happened around 5:55 a.m. near West 46th Street and Seventh Avenue, inside the Midtown North precinct, where the group allegedly punched and kicked the man before taking off on foot. He was taken to a hospital with two broken eye sockets.
The department followed up with a wanted alert on X that lays out the timeline and pleads for help from anyone who saw what happened, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers. The post states that five unidentified suspects punched and kicked the victim throughout his body, then ran off on foot, and it urges the public to check any phone or security video and share tips with detectives.
NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering up to $3,500 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment, and tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782), or through the program's website. The group emphasizes that callers and online tipsters can remain confidential and will not be required to give their names, according to the NYPD Crime Stoppers site. Investigators are also asking anyone with video of the incident to hold onto it and share it with police to help identify the attackers.
