A 75-year-old man was left with a fractured orbital after an unidentified man punched him in the face on a Midtown sidewalk Thursday, prompting an NYPD search for the attacker.
The man was walking near Lexington Avenue when the suspect allegedly approached and struck him with a closed fist, according to amNewYork. The victim was taken by ambulance to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.
Police Release Suspect Description
NYPD said the suspect was last seen running south on Lexington Avenue toward East 49th Street. Police described him as a man with a dark complexion wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and black shoes.
Investigators released photos as they asked Midtown residents, workers and passersby to help identify the man. The department has not publicly disclosed what led to the encounter.
Anonymous Tips Are Being Sought
Anyone with information can contact NYPD Crime Stoppers by calling 800-577-TIPS, or 888-57-PISTA for Spanish-language assistance. Tips can also be submitted online, and callers can remain anonymous.
The NYPD Crime Stoppers program says anonymous information leading to the arrest and indictment of a violent felon may qualify for a reward of up to $3,500. Police also ask witnesses to preserve any photos or video that could help detectives.
Another Recent Midtown Assault Targeted An Older Man
The attack follows another recent police appeal involving an older Midtown victim. In April, Hoodline reported that police were seeking a suspect accused of shoving and punching a 68-year-old man near Fifth Avenue.
The incidents are separate, and police have not announced any connection between them. In the latest case, the suspect remains unidentified while detectives work to trace his movements after the Lexington Avenue assault.
