A 14-year-old was wounded in a shooting early Monday on Milwaukee’s north side, according to police. The teen arrived at a hospital around 2:05 a.m. and is receiving treatment. Detectives have not identified a suspect and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
According to CBS58, the gunfire broke out near the corner of 70th and Bobolink. Investigators are asking anyone who knows anything about the shooting to call MPD at (414) 935-7360 or contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-8477. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the P3 Tips service.
MPD's summer anti-violence push
The shooting comes as the Milwaukee Police Department is in the middle of its Operation Summer Guardian initiative, which the department says is aimed at cutting youth gun violence through extra weekend patrols and outreach. In a May press release, the department said the program pairs enforcement with community meetings and outreach events to deter shootings and get illegal firearms off the street.
Separate incident earlier this week
Days earlier, a gun mishap that landed two in custody involved another 14-year-old who was wounded after a firearm was mishandled, with two men ultimately arrested. That case has added to concerns about youth access to guns and accidental shootings as investigators continue to piece together both episodes.
Detectives say the investigation into Monday’s shooting is active and urged anyone with video or information to contact Milwaukee police or Crime Stoppers, as reported by CBS58. The department emphasizes that even small tips can be critical to moving the case forward.
