Monroe police are asking for help identifying a man they say spent more than three hours moving through a local business, entering work vehicles, stealing company property, and driving away in a Ford F-150. The break-in unfolded on Tuesday evening at Baker's Gas and Ace Hardware on North Dixie Highway, where investigators say the suspect also caused significant damage. The truck was later recovered in downtown Monroe, but the investigation remains active.
According to a Monroe Public Safety Department City of Monroe, MI post yesterday, surveillance images show a white man wearing a dark shirt and pants, a gray-and-black hat, sunglasses, and white shoes with green accents. Police say he entered the property around 7 p.m. on Tuesday and remained there for more than three hours. Detectives believe the suspect is a 34-year-old man from the Monroe area.
Surveillance Shows Suspect Moving Through Work Vehicles
Investigators say the suspect entered dozens of company work vehicles and took property from them. At some point, surveillance footage shows him changing into an employee-issued work jumpsuit after entering one of the vehicles. The department also says he stole a company Ford F-150 and caused significant damage to company property.
Stolen Ford F-150 Recovered In Downtown Monroe
The stolen truck was recovered in downtown Monroe, according to the department. Police have not publicly identified the man and say investigators believe he may have sleeve tattoos on at least one arm. The released images are now central to the department's request for public assistance.
