An elderly man was pulled from a burning home on Leaf Avenue in Murfreesboro on Monday after firefighters moved in fast on a residential blaze, brought the flames under control and cleared the house. Crews ventilated the structure, completed a search of the residence, and extinguished the fire before leaving the scene. Rutherford County EMS then transported the man to a local hospital, and the city’s fire marshal has opened an investigation into what started the blaze.
Response and units on scene
According to the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department, the response brought multiple units to Leaf Avenue, including Engine 3, Ladder 8, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Safety 1, Safety 2 and both battalion chiefs. Firefighters ventilated the home and worked to knock down the fire before conducting search and overhaul operations inside. Photos posted by the department show crews operating hose lines and checking the roof during the response.
Occupants and medical aid
In its Facebook post, the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department noted that “Rescue 1 completed a primary search” and confirmed that no other occupants were located inside the residence. Firefighters removed an elderly male from the home and provided medical care on scene before Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services took him to a local hospital. The department did not release further details on his condition. Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office are examining the origin and cause of the fire.
Leaf Avenue context
The Leaf Avenue area has seen similar emergency responses this spring. In March, a structure fire near the same stretch led to lane closures and a sizable Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department presence, according to local reporting. WGNS reported that quick work by firefighters during that earlier incident helped prevent injuries.
Fire safety reminders
The city’s fire officials continue to urge residents to keep smoke alarms in working order and to have a practiced home escape plan in case of fire. The department shares safety tips, programs and community outreach information on its official site. For resources, visit the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department. Officials say they will release more information on the Leaf Avenue fire as the investigation moves forward.
