A routine midweek drive turned tragic in Iredell County yesterday when a 77-year-old Mooresville man died after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of NC 152 and Brumley Road. Emergency crews rushed him to Lake Norman Regional Hospital, where he later died. The other driver involved suffered only minor injuries, according to troopers.
Investigators with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol say they do not believe speed or impairment played a role. Instead, they suspect the driver of the Scion may have suffered a medical event shortly before the collision.
Troopers: Failure to yield led to deadly impact
The crash happened around 1 p.m., according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which told WSOC‑TV that a 2009 Toyota Scion was traveling east on Brumley Road when it failed to yield at NC 152.
The Scion collided with a 2025 Acura heading south on NC 152. Troopers identified the Scion’s driver as William M. Sedberry, 77, of Mooresville. He was taken from the scene to Lake Norman Regional Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Rural stretch with a grim recent history
The area around that NC 152 intersection is no stranger to tragedy. During severe storms in December 2024, a fallen tree struck a pickup truck in the same general stretch and killed the driver near the Rowan County line, as reported by WRAL.
In that earlier incident, troopers similarly detailed the hazards facing drivers on that rural corridor, especially in rough weather.
Probe continues, but no charges expected
Troopers told WSOC‑TV they suspect Sedberry experienced a medical condition before the crash, and that neither speed nor impairment are believed to be factors.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol keeps collision records and investigator notes available through its online portal at vehicle-search.ncshp.gov. Officials said no criminal charges will be filed as the agency wraps up its investigation into the fatal wreck.
