A quiet Sunday morning at Rialto City Park turned into a crime scene after officers found a man dead and lying nude on the grass in the park’s north-central area, prompting a full-scale investigation by Rialto police.
The man was identified as Jose De Jesus Arriaga Loza. According to a news release reported by CBS Los Angeles, officers were called to the 200 block of E. San Bernardino Avenue at about 5:20 a.m. Sunday. His clothing, wallet and California driver’s license were later recovered in a nearby trash can. Police said robbery does not appear to have been a factor in his death, and the circumstances remain under investigation.
What investigators say
Investigators said Loza “appeared to have injuries to his face that were consistent with a fall or a physical altercation,” language taken from the department’s release and reported by CBS Los Angeles. Detectives are treating the case as suspicious while they work to build a timeline and identify anyone who might have seen or heard something. The department has not announced a cause of death, which is pending the coroner’s findings.

Rialto City Park, located along E. San Bernardino Avenue, is normally a neighborhood gathering spot, hosting summer programs such as Movies in the Park. The city also recently started construction on an inclusive playground at the site.
