Oconomowoc’s long-planned Lake Bluff Drive extension is moving again after crews hit a watery snag at the creek crossing—and the finish line has slid into September.
Work resumed Monday after the contractor paused while developing a new plan to dewater the creek for the new bridge crossing, according to Greater Milwaukee Today. Public Works Director Jason Herzog told the outlet that the contractor also worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on the revised approach.
New completion target is late September
The city now expects the project to be completed by late September, replacing the earlier summer target. Oconomowoc’s official project page says a larger dewatering operation is needed for the culvert crossing and lists a mid-to-late September estimate.
Extension brings trails and safety upgrades
The project is designed to extend Lake Bluff Drive to North Lake Road while adding an asphalt trail and new pedestrian connections. City plans also call for crosswalks, lighting, fog lines, traffic calming and roadside bioretention; the construction bid resolution describes roughly 1,575 feet of new roadway and a precast three-sided box culvert.
The Common Council awarded the project to Musson Bros. for a base bid of $1.25 million, with a 10% contingency included in the approved project cost. For now, the immediate takeaway for nearby residents is straightforward: construction is back, but the creek is still dictating the calendar.
