
A 17-year-old girl was shot in an Orange County neighborhood Wednesday afternoon and later died at a hospital, turning a stretch near Old Cheney Highway into an active death investigation.
Deputies were called around 4:55 p.m. to the 5500 block of Old Cheney Highway after reports of a shooting, according to ClickOrlando. They found the teen wounded, and she was taken to a hospital, where she later died. Her identity and the circumstances that led to the shooting have not been released.
Deputies Say There Is No Ongoing Threat
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said all parties remained at the scene and that there was no threat to the community. Investigators described the case as being in its early stages and have not announced an arrest, suspect description, or possible motive.
Another Shooting Was Reported Nearby In May
The fatal shooting is the second reported near Old Cheney Highway in a little more than two months. In May, a man was found with an apparent gunshot wound near the roadway and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to a previous Hoodline report. Authorities did not publicly identify a suspect or explain what led to that earlier shooting.
For now, detectives have released few details about the deadly encounter involving the teenager. Any update on her identity, the circumstances of the shooting, or possible charges would mark the next major development in the case.
