A 22-year-old Oroville man is accused of stabbing three family members and a dog at a home Tuesday before fleeing with bite injuries and turning up at a nearby market, police said. The three human victims were hospitalized and are recovering after surgeries and medical care.
According to KCRA 3, the attack happened at a home in Oroville's 1900 block of D Street. Police said Johnny Stanchfield fled the property, while dispatchers later received a 911 call about a person with a dog-bite injury at a market on Myers Street. Officers found someone matching Stanchfield's description, held him at gunpoint and arrested him; he was treated for dog-bite injuries, police said.
Charges Include Attempted Murder And Protection Order Violations
California Courts says defendants in criminal cases are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. An arrest and booking do not establish that Stanchfield committed the crimes alleged.
Stanchfield was booked on three counts of attempted murder, one count of violating probation and two counts of violating a criminal protection order, KCRA 3 reported. Police said he was already subject to an active restraining order involving two of the victims and had a warrant from a separate violent case. Investigators said he may face additional charges related to the alleged stabbing of the dog.
