A quiet Palm River block turned into a crime scene on June 19, when deputies found 37-year-old Amanda Roark fatally stabbed inside the Tampa home she shared with her boyfriend. Her partner, 35-year-old Kyle Sanchez, was at the scene and later taken to a hospital with what officials described as minor injuries.
Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded just after 3 p.m. to a 911 call at the Palm River residence, where they discovered Roark suffering from severe trauma to her upper body. Detectives say their investigation led them to conclude Sanchez killed Roark while the two were inside the home, and he was charged with Premeditated First-Degree Murder with a Weapon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

At a pretrial detention hearing this week, prosecutors played two chilling 911 calls from the home. In the first call, Roark can be heard begging for help. Roughly 12 minutes later, another call came in, during which the defendant allegedly told the dispatcher, "I murdered my girlfriend," according to court records.
A judge ordered Sanchez held without bond after testimony that included autopsy findings. The medical examiner reported multiple wounds and a fatal neck laceration, details that were presented in court and reported by Court TV.

Roark worked in Tampa’s defense-technology community, where colleagues say she stood out as both a mentor and a force of positivity. The nonprofit SOFWERX wrote that it was "heartbroken by the loss of our Teammate Amanda Roark" and described her as "an absolute light." A college friend told FOX 13 Tampa Bay that Roark greeted people with a "gigantic smile" and had a way of making others feel instantly welcome.
What comes next
Sanchez has pleaded not guilty and will remain in custody while prosecutors prepare the case. Investigators say the probe is still active and are asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. A booking photo has not yet been released, as Sanchez is still hospitalized, and detectives say they are continuing to review additional evidence.
