Witnesses said a gray Honda Civic toppled signs and came to rest upright on the offramp near a Red Roof Inn after rolling over, as evening drivers across the Antelope Valley found themselves stuck in a growing backup.
How the crash unfolded
The collision was reported at about 8:24 p.m. Friday. Witnesses told investigators a motorist in a gray Honda Civic was driving recklessly before the vehicle went over the left-side embankment, struck a wall and lost a tire. They said the car then plowed through several signs, including one at a Chevron, before overturning and finally stopping on the Palmdale Boulevard offramp.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed at least one fatality in the wreck and is leading the investigation, according to MyNewsLA.

Northbound lanes at the Palmdale Boulevard offramp were shut down for more than six hours while CHP investigators and tow crews worked the scene, documented evidence and cleared the wreckage. The closure pushed freeway traffic onto surface streets and triggered delays across Palmdale during the evening commute.
