A white Honda veered across Highway 69 in Huntington after police say the driver fell asleep, then crashed into a parked Ford Bronco near a business. The impact may have redirected the Honda away from a 10-year-old child who was playing nearby.
The Friday crash happened in Huntington, just east of Lufkin, according to Click2Houston. Police said the Honda was traveling southbound when it crossed the northbound lanes, left the roadway and struck a parked 2024 Ford Bronco at a nearby business before coming to rest against a fence near a cell tower.
In a post on the Huntington Police Department’s Facebook page, officials said the Bronco may have altered the Honda’s path and prevented a much worse outcome.
Child Was Playing At Donut Shop Behind Business
The child was reportedly playing at a donut shop directly behind the nutrition business when the crash occurred. Police said the parked Bronco may have kept the Honda from continuing toward the shop, describing the vehicle’s position as potentially “the difference” between a frightening crash and a tragedy.
The available accounts did not identify the Honda driver or say whether anyone was injured. Authorities also have not announced any citations or criminal charges connected to the crash.
