Thursday morning, a routine workday at a downtown Washington high-rise turned tense when a maintenance worker fell a short distance from a railing on the building’s penthouse level. Firefighters rushed to the 1100 block of 15th Street NW, where crews found the adult man conscious and alert, pulled him to safety and got him to a hospital with what officials described as minor injuries.
According to DC Fire and EMS, Rescue Squad 1 and Tower 3 executed a technical high-angle operation to reach the worker. Crews secured him in a Stokes basket, then carefully navigated an internal stairwell to bring him down from the penthouse level. The department reported that the rescue was completed and all responding units eventually returned to service.
