A person was killed late Wednesday after being hit by a car on northbound State Route 167 near the northbound I-405 ramp in Renton. Washington State Patrol is investigating, while traffic was diverted to northbound I-405 as the scene was handled.
The initial details are unusually thin: WSP has not said whether the person was walking along the highway or was outside a disabled vehicle, according to KIRO 7. The person’s identity and information about the driver had not been released in the station’s first report.
A Dangerous Stretch With A History Of Fatal Crashes
The same general SR 167 corridor has seen at least one other deadly pedestrian crash in recent years. In 2018, a 46-year-old woman was killed while crossing at the 84th Avenue South crosswalk at the northbound SR 167 on-ramp in a hit-and-run, Renton Reporter reported; that earlier case was separate, and authorities have not suggested a connection to Wednesday’s death.
KIRO 7 described the Renton crash as a developing story, with investigators still working to establish what led to the person being on the highway and how the collision unfolded.
