A blue Honda sedan allegedly tore through Petaluma traffic on Monday afternoon, with callers reporting red-light violations and at least one collision with a parked vehicle. Police stopped the driver before the chaotic run could turn into a more serious crash, and no injuries were reported.
According to KSRO's report, citing the Petaluma Argus-Courier, officers responded after receiving multiple calls about the sedan driving recklessly through the city. The driver was intercepted near Petaluma Boulevard North and East Washington Street.
Police identified the driver as Jessie Nielson, a 34-year-old Rohnert Park man. Officers said Nielson failed field sobriety tests and was driving with a suspended license, then booked him into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.
What The Hit-And-Run Charge Involves
California law requires a driver involved in a property-damage crash to stop, provide identifying information and notify the owner of damaged property when the owner is not present, according to the California Legislature. The booking allegations are not convictions, and prosecutors will determine which charges formally move forward.
The arrest comes less than a week after police sought suspects in a separate Petaluma hit-and-run at a Taco Bell parking lot, where a white Infiniti allegedly struck two parked vehicles and a fire hydrant before fleeing. Hoodline previously reported that no arrests had been announced in that case as of last week.
For the current case, KSRO reported that Nielson remained booked at the Sonoma County jail after the traffic stop. Court records and any formal criminal complaint will provide the next public update.
