A year after Chicago content creator Bibiano Ruano was fatally shot on the Southwest Side, his family says they are still waiting for basic answers about who killed him and why. Relatives say detectives have told them there is surveillance footage tied to the case and that a $10,000 reward is on the table, yet no arrests have been announced.
In the meantime, Ruano's family has been doing the kind of legwork you would normally expect from a detective squad. They say they have spent the past year walking Pilsen block by block, knocking on doors, pulling door-cam video and chasing down every tip they can find. "I just want them to be honest. I want them to do the right thing," his sister Amanda said. According to FOX 32 Chicago, detectives confirmed there is surveillance video connected to the case, the family believes Ruano may have been set up, and a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
How And Where He Was Killed
Ruano, who performed online as "BIBI THE KING," was shot March 1, 2025, while walking on the 1400 block of West 18th Street near Blue Island Avenue, then taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that two people approached and fired multiple shots and that no arrests have been made in the slaying.
Hoodline first covered Ruano's death in March 2025, gathering community reaction along with a statement from his colleagues. See community mourns slain entertainer for the original reporting. The family later set up a fundraiser after the funeral and says neighborhood canvassing has produced tips but still no clear suspect.
