A deadly shooting in Pinellas County early Friday, July 10, left one man dead at the scene and another fighting for his life in the hospital, according to deputies. Authorities said the people involved knew each other and stressed there is no ongoing threat to residents.
Deputies responded to reports of an adult who had been shot and arrived to find one man already dead, while another was rushed away with life-threatening injuries. Tampa Bay 28 reported that detectives are now working to piece together what led up to the gunfire.
What the sheriff's office says
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the call originally came in as a report of an adult being shot, and the case is being handled as a death investigation. Deputies said they secured the area and, at last report, had no suspect information they were ready to release publicly.
Parties "known to each other"
Investigators told Tampa Bay 28 that the individuals involved were known to one another and that the surviving man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Officials have not released the names of those involved, citing the need to notify family members first.
How to help investigators
Detectives are continuing to process the scene and review evidence. They are asking anyone with video, eyewitness accounts or other information to contact the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office tip line or submit an online tip through the agency's website. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office also urged residents to avoid spreading unverified rumors and to share any credible leads directly with investigators.
