The House of Marigold’s NuLu expansion is still wearing its construction-site look, but the restaurant’s signature pink hard hats are already offering Louisville diners a preview of what is coming. Inside the future East Market Street restaurant, bare rooms and stacks of wrapped boxes signal that the brunch destination is not quite ready to serve its first plate.
A new look inside the project from The Courier-Journal shows the restaurant in the middle of construction at 624 E. Market St. in NuLu. The unfinished space is a sharp contrast to the bright, polished atmosphere associated with the House of Marigold’s existing location.
The NuLu project will be the second House of Marigold for husband-and-wife owners Adrienne and Kris Cole. As reported by Louisville Business First, the roughly 13,000-square-foot restaurant is taking over the former Harvest building and is designed to combine several dining and event concepts under one roof.
The New Location Will Go Beyond Brunch
The Coles’ first House of Marigold opened on Shelbyville Road in 2023 and built a following around breakfast, brunch and Southern-inspired comfort food. The NuLu restaurant is expected to add dinner service for the first time, according to WDRB, giving the brand a much broader role in Louisville’s dining scene.
Plans call for a greenhouse bar and dining area, a rooftop bar, a chef’s table overlooking a glass-enclosed kitchen and private mezzanine dining. The space is also intended to support catering, private events and showcase dinners, turning the NuLu address into more than a second daytime restaurant.
The House of Marigold describes its food as locally sourced and seasonal, with the broader business also offering catering and event services. The company’s official story identifies the Coles’ operation as family-owned, female-owned and Black-owned, adding another locally rooted hospitality brand to NuLu’s increasingly crowded restaurant lineup.
For now, the pink helmets and cardboard-wrapped fixtures are doing the talking. Once the walls, bars and dining rooms come together, Louisville will get a Marigold location built to handle everything from a morning meal to a late dinner and a rooftop gathering.
