Davon James, 32, who earlier this year tried to give deputies the slip by burrowing into an attic, is back behind bars after Allegheny County Sheriff’s deputies say they found him in yet another unlikely hiding spot: under a television set in a basement in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood. Deputies say James was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
According to CBS Pittsburgh, detectives had information that James was inside a Carrick home and received permission to search a first-floor apartment, but they initially came up empty. The sheriff's office says James had been a fugitive since earlier in July, after a bench warrant was issued for a probation violation tied to a guilty plea on a firearms charge. He also had an active warrant alleging strangulation dated July 2.
Detectives later headed to a common basement area, where they spotted an arm "protruding" from beneath a TV set. They ordered the person to show themselves; James complied and was arrested without incident, the report states. He was then taken to the Allegheny County Jail, according to the sheriff's office statement reported by CBS Pittsburgh.
A Familiar Pattern: Attic Then Basement
