A man in his 30s died Wednesday after a police chase ended with a violent crash outside a Pomona apartment complex. The suspect was alone in a blue sedan that slammed into a palm tree, leaving the car partially wrapped around the trunk and debris scattered across the street.
The pursuit began in Victorville when San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop the driver for an unspecified vehicle code violation, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. The chase continued into Pomona and ended near Towne and Bonita avenues, outside an apartment complex.
Air7 footage showed the wrecked sedan at the crash scene, with emergency crews working around the vehicle and pieces of the car spread across the roadway. The report did not indicate that anyone else was inside the sedan, and authorities had not publicly released the driver’s name.
Details Remain Unclear After Deadly Pomona Pursuit
Officials have not said what prompted the original stop, how fast the sedan was traveling, or whether anyone at the apartment complex was injured. The circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash remain under investigation, and additional details could emerge as investigators reconstruct the route from Victorville to Pomona.
Crash Follows Another Fatal Pomona Pursuit
The deadly wreck comes less than four months after another Pomona pursuit ended in tragedy. A suspect fleeing police on April 1 crashed into a vehicle carrying a pregnant woman and her boyfriend, killing both of them and their unborn child, the Los Angeles Times reported.
That earlier suspect, Marshall Judson, was later arrested and faced three murder counts in the case. Wednesday’s crash involved no reported passengers in the fleeing vehicle, but investigators have not yet said whether the collision caused injuries beyond the driver’s death.
