Early Sunday morning, a large crowd at Hill Creek Apartments in Lawncrest broke up as Philadelphia police moved in, moments after officers said they heard gunfire around 3 a.m. At the complex, officers reported finding several shell casings and a car with bullet holes, and authorities had not yet confirmed whether anyone was injured.
According to 6abc, Action Cam footage shows officers flooding the Hill Creek Apartments on the 500 block of Adams Avenue after a call shortly before 3 a.m. Police said they heard shots as they arrived, then moved through the area, recovering multiple shell casings and locating a vehicle with visible bullet damage.
What Happened At The Complex
Per the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Hill Creek Apartments is a public housing complex at 528 Adams Avenue with 334 units. That stretch of Adams Avenue has already seen its share of police responses and large gatherings this year, including a June 2024 car meet that drew hundreds of people and led to arrests, according to CBS Philadelphia.

Episodes like the one in Lawncrest stand out in a summer when citywide shootings have generally been trending lower. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the first week of July was notably calmer and that Philadelphia is on pace for far fewer homicides than in the last several years. Police officials have pointed to a mix of targeted enforcement and community violence-prevention programs as factors in that improvement, even as these isolated overnight flare-ups remain a persistent concern.
